Werner Coblenz Prize

The Werner Coblenz Prize has been awarded since 2004 for special merits in the field of archeology in Saxony , Bohemia and Lower Silesia .

It is offered by the “Pro Archaeologia Saxoniae” foundation, supported by the Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlengesellschaft (MIBRAG), with 5000 euros and awarded at irregular intervals. Another award from the foundation is the “Gerhard Bersu Scholarship”.

The award is intended to honor employees of universities and museums who make an outstanding contribution to archaeological research and presentation as well as to the promotion of cross-border cooperation. The award is named after the most renowned archaeologist in Central Germany , Werner Coblenz .

  • 2006 Joanna Wojnicz ( Poznań ) - " Oybin Castle and Monastery "
  • 2010 Wolfgang Schwabenicky - for his life's work, especially in the field of mining archeology
