The Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Bad Dürkheim (WHG) is the only gymnasium in the city and one of three in the Bad Dürkheim district .
location
The grammar school is located in the eastern urban area of Bad Dürkheim in the Trift district . Immediately to the north are the Carl-Orff-Realschule Plus and the Salierschule .
history
Today's Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Bad Dürkheim has several historical origins. A Latin school already existed in what was then Dürkheim before 1606. This destroyed Ezéchiel de Mélac in the course of the Palatine War of Succession . A new Latin school was built as early as 1702, which was closed in 1796 for financial reasons. In 1821 a Latin school was established on site for the third time, which in 1894 finally became the Royal Bavarian Progymnasium . In 1831, the Legendecker private boys' education institute was established , from which the State New Language Progymnasium for boys developed after the Second World War . In addition, there was a girls' school as early as the 18th century . This later became the Municipal New Language High School , which was reserved for girls. In 1970, the State New Language Progymnasium and the Municipal New Language High School were merged to form the State New Language and Mathematical-Natural Science High School Bad Dürkheim , which has been called the Werner-Heisenberg -Gymnasium Bad Dürkheim since 1981 .
profile
As early as the fifth grade , students have the opportunity to choose between two foreign languages, English and French. Children who are interested in the "bilingual branch" receive additional English lessons. From the 7th grade onwards, in the so-called "Bili" classes, a social science subject is taught partly in English. From the sixth grade onwards, French or Latin are added as a second foreign language, from the ninth grade onwards, Spanish or IT can also be chosen voluntarily.
At the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium, the Abitur can be completed after completing the 13th grade.
