Werner Schreiner (historian)

Werner Schreiner (born May 11, 1947 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ) is a German teacher who made a name for himself as a traffic expert and official as well as a historian .

Life

Study and school service

Schreiner studied English and history in Mannheim and Manchester . At times he was employed at the Mannheim University. His professional career in the public service began in 1972. As a teacher, most recently as senior teacher, he taught from 1974 to 1990 at the Kurfürst-Ruprecht-Gymnasium Neustadt . In 1990 he moved to the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Bad Dürkheim , where he was director of studies until 1992 . He then took leave of absence from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Commitment to rail transport

In 1974, on the initiative of Schreiner, the Neustadt-Böbig stop was built about 2 km east of the Neustadt main station at the school center on the Palatinate Northern Railway Neustadt– Monsheim . This measure was aimed at shifting school traffic, which at that time was preferably carried out by bus, to rail. Schreiner was also committed to converting the Lambrecht - Elmstein cuckoo chain , which was threatened by total closure and dismantling, into a museum railway. The efforts led to the start of museum railroad operations in 1984; On February 14th, the Kuckucksbähnel-Bahnbetriebs-GmbH was founded, in which Schreiner and five other private individuals as well as the city of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, the Verbandsgemeinde Lambrecht , the Verein Burg Spangenberg e. V. and the traffic associations of Neustadt and Elmstein was involved. In the same year, the Kuckucksbähnel Friends' Association was founded in Neustadt , the chairman of which became a carpenter.

In 1992, Schreiner worked as a traffic expert for the then regional planning association Rhein-Neckar . From 1993 to 1996 he was also responsible for the implementation of the Rhineland-Palatinate clock and in this function was the project manager of the Rhineland-Palatinate state governments under Scharping and Beck . From 1997 to 2005 he was director of the regional rail passenger transport association Rhineland-Palatinate South ; In this function he was responsible for the implementation of the Rhineland-Palatinate clock in the southern part of the state. From April 1997 to June 2005, Schreiner was a member of the management of the Verkehrsverbundes Rhein-Neckar (VRN) in charge of planning and services. In 2004 he became chairman of the expert committee on international passenger transport . From 2005 until his retirement in 2012, he was also responsible for managing the VRN.

Schreiner has been a member of DB Netz's network advisory board since January 1, 2012 . At the beginning of 2014 he succeeded Clemens Nagel as the representative for cross-border cooperation in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

As a historian, Schreiner published numerous writings on the history of the Palatinate railway.

further activities

From 1986, Schreiner worked for the district administration of the Bad Dürkheim district . Schreiner works as a lay judge on a voluntary basis at the Neustadt an der Weinstrasse district court and the Frankenthal (Palatinate) regional court . He is also a member of the Kurpfalz association's board of trustees . He heads the Neustadt district group of the Palatinate Historical Society as chairman.

Schreiner is a member of the SPD . For this he sits on the city council of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse.

Awards

In 2010, Schreiner received the mobifair fairness award. In 2013, the Interior Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Roger Lewentz, presented him with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon, which had been awarded to him by Federal President Joachim Gauck . On the occasion of his 70th birthday, there was a ceremony and a festschrift in the Neustadt Casimirianum .
