Wolfgang Müller (born March 3, 1954 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German archivist and regional historian in Saarland .

Life

Müller attended the modern language grammar school on Rittersberg in Kaiserslautern. After graduating from high school, he studied history and German at Saarland University from 1972 . After three years as a student assistant at the Institute for Ancient History ( Werner Eck ), he passed the first state examination in 1978. Thanks to a doctoral scholarship, he completed his doctoral thesis , which was supervised by Heinz-Otto Sieburg and Jörg K. Hoensch . In 1983 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1981 to 1988 research assistant at the Historical Institute, he conducted his first studies in university history. In addition, he coordinated the cooperation with the Historical Institute of the University of Metz . As a scholarship holder in the VW research project with Elisabeth Fehrenbach , he dealt with the resonance of the French Revolution on the left bank of the Rhine from 1986 to 1988 . He completed the two-year archive internship at the Saarbrücken State Archives and at the Marburg Archive School (24th course). In 1991 he passed the second state examination as a career test for the higher archive service. Then he founded the archive of Saarland University, which he has systematically built up and expanded ever since. Since 1995 he has been teaching archive science at the Historical Institute.

Müller's publications deal with the history of Saarland University, the history of science , regional history in the 19th and 20th centuries, archival science and aspects of Palatine Protestantism . Among other things, he has written numerous articles and eyewitness reports on the history of individual institutes or biographical studies on scientists working at Saarland University, for example edited the memoirs of the geographer Carl Rathjens from the estate and prepared a detailed life story of the forgotten German-Bohemian legal scholar Rudolf Schránil .
