from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Werner V. , Count im Nahegau , Speyergau and Wormsgau , is the first historically tangible Salier .

However, the assumptions about his life data and family relationships differ widely. The following theories can be found in the literature:

Life dates Kinship classification reference
* around 899, † around 935 Son of Count Werner IV. , († probably before 891?) In Wormsgau and a sister of King Conrad I whose name was unknown . Andreas Thiele
† after 935 Belongs for genealogical reasons between Werner IV. And Konrad the Red ... His wife could be: Hicha von Schwaben, († after 950), daughter of Duke Burchard II. Rudiger Barth
† probably 920 Husband of a Konradine woman unknown by name and as the father of Konrad the Red. Detlev Schwennicke

At the beginning of the 10th century, Count Werner tried to expand his territory at the church's expense. In the course of the resulting disputes with the diocese of Speyer , he had Bishop Einhard I blinded in 913 , whereupon he died. In Remigiusland near Kusel he also acted in a similar way with properties of the Archdiocese of Reims . The violent death of the Speyer shepherd was investigated three years later at the Synod of Hohenaltheim by Bishop Richowo von Worms on behalf of the papal legate Peter von Orte .
