Werner Coninx

Werner Coninx (born July 28, 1911 in Zurich ; † March 10, 1980 ibid) was a Swiss painter , art collector and patron .

Life

Werner Coninx, son of Otto Coninx-Girardet (1871–1956), the founder of Tages-Anzeiger AG , belonged to an influential and wealthy Zurich publishing family .

After dropping out of medical school, he trained as a painter and sculptor.

He was a member of the board of directors of the family company from 1942 to 1978 , but did not take on any operational tasks and devoted his life to art while his brother Otto Coninx-Wettstein managed the company.

Werner Coninx built up an important art collection, which in 1974 was transferred to the “Coninx Foundation”. As early as 1975 there was a first exhibition in the Helmhaus Zurich . Today the foundation bears the name «Werner Coninx Foundation». The foundation donated various works from the collection to several Swiss museums, including a. the Bündner Kunstmuseum around 1,000 graphic sheets and the Aargauer Kunsthaus 120 paintings on permanent loan.

Werner Coninx was the father of Severin Coninx and Rena Coninx (the mother of Pietro Supino ). He was a friend of the writer Max Frisch and financed his architecture studies.
