Werner Correll

Werner Correll (born June 29, 1928 in Wasseralfingen ; † November 18, 2018 in Lich ) was a German psychologist who dealt with behavioral , motivational and learning psychology . Until his retirement, Correll was full professor of educational psychology at the University of Gießen and, as a representative of behavioristic learning psychology, headed the Institute for Programmed Learning at the university. In the 1960s, he developed a reading machine based on American models and helped initiate the transfer of “programmed lessons” based on learning theory into West German school pedagogy. Correll was friends with Burrhus Frederic Skinner (1904–1990), the American behaviorist and inventor of programmed learning , with whom he published jointly, and wrote the epilogue to the posthumously published German re-translation of Skinner's utopian novel Walden Two . In the wider public he gained some notoriety by popular science book publications and lectures in the field of business psychology and coaching and worked as a consultant in business and politics.
