Werner Drobesch

Werner Drobesch (born June 8, 1957 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian historian .

Life

Werner Drobesch first studied history and German studies at the University of Klagenfurt and graduated in 1980 with a Mag. Phil. From 1980 to 1988 he was a teacher at the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Gymnasium in Klagenfurt and at the same time a doctoral student. In 1987 he was with the work "The political clubs and associations in Carinthia from 1914 to 1938" to Dr. phil. PhD . In 1988 he became an assistant at the Institute for History, specializing in Modern and Austrian History. He completed his habilitation with a paper on the agricultural revolution in the inner Austrian countries in Vormärz and was appointed associate professor at the Alpen-Adria University of Klagenfurt.

Drobesch was a member of the Commission for the History of the Habsburg Monarchy of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) from 2008 until its dissolution in 2012 and has been a member of the Commission for the Modern History of Austria since 2017.

He is a member of the Catholic school association K.Ö.St.V. Karantania Klagenfurt, the Catholic student association K.Ö.aV Carinthia Klagenfurt in the ÖCV as well as knight of the knightly order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

His main areas of research are: Austrian history, social and economic history of Austria, especially Carinthia and the Alps-Adriatic region, history of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation as well as the Jesuits in the inner-Austrian countries.
