Werner Goerlitz

Werner Görlitz (born February 11, 1937 in Heidelberg ; † January 1, 2010 ) was a German mechanical engineer.

Career

Görlitz attended the humanistic Kurfürst-Friedrich-Gymnasium in Heidelberg and completed his school education there in 1956 with the Abitur. He then studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Karlsruhe . At the Federal Railway Directorate in Karlsruhe, a draft of a branch line diesel locomotive for 1,000 mm gauge was created for his diploma thesis .

The first professional station was Fried. Krupp Maschinenfabriken in Essen, where he was involved in the construction and planning of diesel locomotives. In 1967 he moved to the MAN Augsburg plant as a department head , where he was responsible for the installation and sale of rail engines. In 1970 he returned to Fried. Krupp GmbH, Krupp Industrie- und Stahlbau and from 1976 took over the management of the traffic technology product area, of which he was appointed director in 1979.
In 1983 Görlitz took over the management of the Locomotives and Transportation Systems division at the Munich vehicle manufacturer Krauss-Maffei . In 1987 he was appointed managing director of Krauss-Maffei Verkehrstechnik GmbH, which in 1999 was incorporated into the Siemens group as Siemens Krauss-Maffei Lokomotiven GmbH . He retired a year later.

In addition to his professional sphere of activity, Görlitz was also active on a voluntary basis in several professional associations. He was chairman of the advisory board of the DIN standards committee for rail vehicles, member of the executive committee of the Association of the Railway Industry in Germany (VDB) as well as chairman of the VDB economic committee, deputy chairman of the steering group of the research community wheel / rail, member of the scientific advisory board of ZEV + DET Glasers Annalen and co-editor other railway technology journals.

After having been an associate member of the entire board since 1981, he was first chairman of the Deutsche Maschinentechnische Gesellschaft (DMG) from 1989 to 1999 and was then an associate again from 1999 to 2005. Until 2005 he worked on the Beuth Committee of DMG.

In addition, Görlitz was a member of the board of trustees of the Deutsches Museum .
