Gutendorf initially played alongside his brother for TuS Neuendorf from the Koblenz district of the same name . With the TuS he entered the Oberliga Südwest until the summer of 1951 . He made his debut on August 19, 1951 (1st matchday) in a 3-1 win against 1. FC Schweinfurt in the stadium on Grünwalder Strasse . The Bayern occupied under coach Max Schaefer and players like Hans Bauer , Rudolf Brandmaier , Otto Schweizer and Jakob Streitle the eighth. In the following season he guarded the gate 22 times and then returned to TuS Neuendorf. Gutendorf is listed in the player lexicon with a total of 56 league games for TuS Neuendorf and Bayern Munich.

Gutendorf came for the last time on March 27, 1955 in the 1: 3 defeat in the away game against FK Pirmasens for Koblenz to a league use. His team closed the 1954/55 season with Gerd Skudlarek as a regular goalkeeper in fourth place.
