Werner Hilgemann

Werner Hilgemann (* 1921 in Münster ; † February 14, 2004 in Bielefeld ) was a German teacher, cartographer and non-fiction author .

Life

Hilgemann studied history , German and Protestant theology for teaching at the universities of Marburg , Leipzig and Münster . In 1955 he settled in Bielefeld and since then has been employed as a history and German teacher at the Max-Planck-Gymnasium Bielefeld .

In addition to his teaching activities, Hilgemann published numerous non-fiction books on history. His best-known work is the two-volume dtv atlas on world history , which he published together with his colleague Hermann Kinder for the first time in 1964, which has since been updated several times (most recently in 2006) and has a circulation of more than five million copies. He also published numerous transparencies for daylight projection with worksheets, especially together with his school colleague Günter Kettermann . He also worked as a cartographer . Since the 1960s, numerous school wall maps on history and religion have been published by Justus Perthes' Geographischer Verlagsanstalt in Darmstadt - again mostly in close collaboration with Günter Kettermann. Many titles were offered by Justus Perthes Verlag, some of them for decades, and also sold abroad, as these map representations were unique in form and content.

Hilgemann died at the age of 83 in Bielefeld after a long illness.
