The former VDP - Weingut Villa Sachsen was located in the Kempten district of Bingen am Rhein in the Rheinhessen wine-growing region between the eastern end of the Rochusberg and the upstream end of the Binger harbor. It was named after the building in which it was located.

history

The establishment of the winery goes back to the 19th century . In 1843 Edmund Carl von Bühler zu Hohenstein had an estate built for himself. A large orangery was built, a gardener's house and orchards were created. A park surrounds the late classicist house . The panorama of Rüdesheim am Rhein with the Germania can be seen very well from the building.

The expansion into a large winery took place during the Allied occupation of the Rhineland from 1920 to 1922. Villa Sachsen experienced its heyday until the 1960s.

Since the wine year 2008, the winery has been managed by Felix Prinz zu Salm and Salm-Salm from the line of the Wild and Rheingrafen . On July 1, 2011, the winery was merged with the Prinz Salm winery in Wallhausen, also a VDP winery. The cellar in the Villa Sachsen was given up.

Locations

About 19 hectares of vineyards in the sometimes steep vineyards on Rochusberg belonged to the winery . These are managed from the headquarters of the Prinz zu Salm-Dalberg'schen Weingut in Wallhausen . The layers lead quartzite and slate from the Devonian , because they are in a foothill of the Rhenish Slate Mountains . These store heat in summer and offer the vines a privileged climate . The rock also gives off its heat to the vines at night. Another temperature buffer is added by the Nahe in the west.

The locations extend around the Rochusberg from Kempten am Rhein to Büdesheim :

Grape variety mirror

The leading grape variety is Riesling with around 70% . The range of grape varieties is supplemented by Müller-Thurgau , Kerner , Silvaner , gray , white and pinot noir.
