Werner Lieberknecht

Werner Lieberknecht (* 1961 in Dresden ) is a German photographer .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1980, Lieberknecht did a two-year photography apprenticeship. From 1986 to 1988 he took a distance learning course in photography at the University of Graphic Art and Book Art in Leipzig . Evelyn Richter and Arno Fischer were among his teachers . He has been working as a freelancer since 1987 and in the same year documented the studio of the sculptor Hermann Glöckner, who died a few weeks earlier . In the following years he received several working grants from the Foundation for Cultural Exchange Netherlands-Germany until 1995 and a grant from the Foundation for Cultural Funds of the New Federal States in 1992 .

Lieberknecht has been represented in solo and group exhibitions in Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States since the mid-1980s. In 1997 he received a grant from the Free State of Saxony for the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf in Brandenburg . In the following year he worked on an exhibition in Dresden about the photography pioneer Hermann Krone . Since 1998 he has been a member of the German Society for Photography .

Works by Lieberknecht are not only in Saxon collections such as the Leipzig Picture Museum and the Dresden Kupferstichkabinett , but also among others. a. also in the National Gallery Berlin, the Museum Folkwang Essen, the Brandenburg Art Collections Cottbus or the State Gallery Moritzburg in Halle.
