The Harz Volksbank eG is a German cooperative bank based in Wernigerode in the Harz district ( Saxony-Anhalt ).

history

In 1857 Victor Aimé Huber founded the Advance Association in Wernigerode, the forerunner of the Harzer Volksbank. In 1858 the Loan Fund Association followed in Aschersleben , the Credit Association in Halberstadt, in 1864 the Quedlinburg advance payment association and in 1880 the Bad Harzburg savings and advance payment association . In 1932 Wernigerode was transformed into a bank association for the city and district of Wernigerode eGmbH , which became Volksbank Wernigerode eGmbH in 1941 and a bank for trade and commerce in 1946 . After the turn in the GDR was created in 1991 from the People's Bank of Wernigerode , in 1993 with the Volksbank Bad Harzburg for ?? Volksbank Harzburg Wernigerode merged and was based in Wernigerode. In 1996 the Raiffeisenbank Heudeber merged with this bank. After the Volksbank Harzburg-Wernigerode merged with the Volksbank Halberstadt in 2001 , it was renamed the United Volksbank Wernigerode .

Harzer Volksbank eG was created in 2014 through the merger of Vereinigte Volksbank eG in Wernigerode and Ostharzer Volksbank eG in Quedlinburg .

Legal bases

In addition to the Banking Act, the bank's legal basis is the Cooperative Society Act and its articles of association . The organs of the cooperative bank are the board of directors , the supervisory board and the representative assembly . The bank is owned by BVR Institutssicherung GmbH and the protection scheme of the Federal Association of German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks e. V. connected.

Branches

Harzer Volksbank eG has 14 branches located in the Harz district, the Goslar district and the Salzland district. In addition, the Volksbank has around 40 of its own ATMs in the supply area.

In 2016, twelve of the existing 25 branches were closed or converted into machine locations to save money. In March 2020, five more branches will close for the same reason, leaving nine branches.

criticism

In 2013, the United Volksbank came under fire for charging 13.25% interest on overdraft facilities, which, according to the financial test of Stiftung Warentest, was well above the average of 11.31%. This rate was later lowered.
