Werner Marti (writer)

Werner Marti (born September 5, 1920 in Vogelsang near Rapperswil BE ; † November 9, 2013 in Biel ) was a Swiss writer and dialect researcher of Bern German .

Life

Marti grew up on a farm. In 1940 he acquired his teaching license at the Hofwil teacher training college . From 1945 to 1966 he worked as a primary school teacher in the Seewil district of Rapperswil. In 1959 he passed the federal Matura and then studied part-time German , English and folklore at the University of Bern , where he received his doctorate in 1966 . He then worked as a seminar teacher in Biel until his retirement , with a one-year break to work on his Bern German grammar . In 1995 he received the Book Prize of the Canton of Bern for Niklaus and Anna .

On September 25, 2010, Werner Marti was made an honorary member of the Swiss German Association for his services to the association and dialect . He took part in the event himself and expressed his thanks for the honor in a short speech.
