Werner Meier (politician)

Werner Meier (born October 1, 1916 in Göschenen , Canton Uri , Switzerland ; † May 16, 2007 in Allmendingen near Bern ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ) and trade unionist.

Life

Werner Meier was the son of the SBB station manager in Göschenen at the north portal of the Gotthard tunnel . He himself initially became an SBB station officer in Ticino, German-speaking Switzerland and French-speaking Switzerland.

Meier was President of the Swiss Railway Union (SEV) from 1972 to 1981 . He was also President of the Association for the Promotion of Personnel in Public Administrations and Enterprises (FöV). He was also Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Federal Railways and a member of the board of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB).

From 1975 to 1983 Meier represented the Social Democratic Party (SP) in the National Council .

He died after a long illness. Werner Meier was a citizen of Obergösgen , Canton Solothurn.
