Werner Pfennig

Werner Pfennig (born February 25, 1937 in Cologne ; † January 29, 2008 ) was a German trade unionist and federal chairman of the VVN-BdA .

Life

After graduating from elementary school , Pfennig worked as a farm worker. In 1952 he began training as a typesetter at the Rheinhessische Druckwerkstätte in Alzey . From 1955 to 1970 he worked as a typesetter in various printing houses. a. also in the large printing works Druckhaus Deutz and at the Kölnische Verlagsdruckerei , where he was elected deputy chairman of the works council.

At the Akademie der Arbeit he trained as an assistant for economics and then from 1972 worked as a lecturer at the central training facility of the IG Druck und Papier in Heidenrod-Springen in the Taunus. From 1973 to 1978 he was head of department for universities and seminars at the Hans Böckler Foundation . In 1978 he became federal employee secretary for the main board of the industrial union for printing and paper. He was regional chairman of the printing and paper industry union and the media union in Baden-Württemberg from 1983 to 1992 and member of the executive board of the media union from 1992 to 1995. Here he was responsible for the business areas of union education, vocational training, finance and administration as well as for the federal specialist groups for the printing industry, paper processing, publishers and agencies as well as for research and technology policy. Since ver.di was founded, he has been a member of the control and complaints committee of the federal executive board and he has continued to be active in trade union educational work, in particular for the federal department of media, art and industry.

Pfennig worked on the scientific advisory board of the DKP-related Institute for Marxist Studies and Research .

After his retirement he was federal chairman and state spokesman for the VVN-BdA . He was involved in the reunification of the VVN-BdA of the Federal Republic of Germany with the East German interest group of former participants in the anti-fascist resistance, victims of the Nazi regime and survivors (IVVdN-BdA) after German reunification . At the unification congress he was elected as a representative of the old VVN-BdA as one of the two equal chairmen. He held this position as co-chairman together with Heinrich Fink until his death.

He was buried on February 5, 2008 in the Pragfriedhof in Stuttgart.
