Werner Pohle (born October 4, 1925 in Kiel ; † March 20, 2012 in Vlotho ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1961 to 1971 he was mayor of the city of Minden and from 1962 to 1975 a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life and work

After attending grammar school, Werner Pohle was first required to serve in the Reich Labor Service and later participated in the Second World War as a conscript soldier . After the Second World War, he completed a socio-educational training course, which he completed in 1951 in Kiel with the state examination. From 1951 to 1953 he worked as an educational director. Werner Pohle was managing director of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) in Minden from 1953 to 1962 . From 1962 to 1975 Pohle was a member of the constituency of Minden-Nord in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia and from 1972 to 1988 city councilor and alderman of the city of Minden for school, youth, social affairs and sport. Werner Pohle lived with his family in Vlotho, but during his tenure as mayor and member of the state parliament he was also registered in the house of the then local club treasurer Max Ingberg in Simeonstraße in Minden, as a residence in the city of Minden was a prerequisite for the mayor's office.

Political party

Werner Pohle joined the Jusos in Schleswig-Holstein and Kassel in 1948 before becoming a member of the SPD in 1952. Just two years later, as AWO managing director, he was elected deputy chairman of the SPD local association in Minden. From 1962 he was also a member of the SPD sub-district executive committee in Minden.

From November 1956 Werner Pohle was a member of the city ​​council of Minden for the SPD and in leading offices in his parliamentary group; initially from March to April 1961 he held a short-term mandate in the Minden district council . From 1962 Pohle was directly elected member of the constituency of Minden (145/147) in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia , he was able to confirm this mandate in the following elections and kept it until 1975. In the Düsseldorf state parliament he was deputy chairman of the committee for Rules of Procedure and Immunity, from 1966 to 1970 chairman of the Youth and Family Committee and from 1970 to 1975 chairman of the Committee on Youth, Family and Political Education. From 1970 he was also a member of the Presidium of the State Parliament.

Public offices

From August 1959 to April 1961 Werner Pohle was Deputy Mayor of the city of Minden. Since the sudden death of Mayor Karl Rust (FDP) on June 19, 1960, Pohle has been in charge of the mayor's official business. In April 1961, at the age of 35, the city council elected him the first social democratic mayor of the city of Minden. He held the office of mayor until December 1971, his successor was SPD parliamentary group leader Hans-Jürgen Rathert .

voluntary work

For a total of 28 years, Pohle was chairman of Lebenshilfe for mentally disabled children in the Minden district. He also chaired the board of trustees of the parent company Salem Köslin and the Martini Bauverein. Furthermore, Pohle was deputy chairman of the Diakonisches Werk Minden and the cathedral building association. In addition, he was a founding member of the Association for Christian-Jewish Cooperation and the Friends of the Minden Engineering School.
