Werner Schröter (medical doctor)

Werner Schröter (born July 6, 1933 in Waltershausen ; † May 5, 2018 ) was a German pediatrician and university professor .

Life

Schröter studied medicine at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and the University of Hamburg . After completing his studies, he worked at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and at the Institute for Biochemistry at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In 1959 he received his doctorate with a study on spruce needle oils . From 1962 to 1973 Schröter worked as an assistant and senior physician at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. He became a specialist in pediatrics in 1965. In 1967 he qualified as a professor , and in 1971 he was appointed professor. In 1973 Schröter followed the call to the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen , where he held the chair of paediatrics until 2000.

Since 1988 he has been a full member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . In 2000 he became an honorary member of the German Society for Child and Adolescent Medicine (DGKJ). Schröter was editor of the monthly pediatric medicine for 25 years .
