Werner Stumpfe

Werner Stumpfe (born June 16, 1937 in Liegnitz , Lower Silesia ; † January 25, 2018 ) was a German industrial lawyer. He became known as the president of Gesamtmetall .

Life

After graduating from high school in Mannheim , Stumpfe began to study law and economics at the Friedrich Alexander University . In 1957 he became a member of the Corps Normannia-Halle in Erlangen . When he was inactive , he moved to the University of Zurich . After the exams and the doctorate to Dr. iur. utr. he worked in Switzerland and in the Rhenish steel industry. In 1971 he became managing director and 1975 chief executive officer of the iron and steel industry employers' association in Düsseldorf. In 1981 he was elected to the board of the Mannesmann Demag AG in Duisburg. He was Vice President of Gesamtmetall from 1983–1985, President 1985–1991 and full-time President 1996–2000.
