Werner Wilhelm (Reichsfreiherr) von Blaspiel (* around 1615 , † 1681 in Berlin , alternative spellings: Blaspeil , Blaspijl or Blasspiel ) was a Brandenburg politician and diplomat .

Life

Origin and family

Werner Wilhlem von Blaspiel was a son of Johann Moritz von Blaspiel was a son of the reformed Klevian land rent master and chamber councilor Lucas Blaspiel (1585–1668) and Margarte, née Bachmann († 1664). The Prussian statesman Johann Moritz von Blaspiel († 1723) was his son.

Career

During the residence of the Great Elector in Kleve from 1647 to 1649, Blaspiel was appointed to the secret government and chamber council. As envoy of the Brandenburg state and diplomat, he gained a high reputation, in particular by resolving the bilateral disputes over the repayment of national debts to Holland , through which he on the one hand a consolidation of the relations between the two countries and on the other hand a closer cooperation with the involvement of the Habsburg states against Louis XIV hoped for. He played a key role in bringing about the Brandenburg-Palatinate hereditary settlement over the Jülich-Klevian lands in 1666 and in the negotiations for the Peace of Nijmegen 1676-78. On December 19, 1678, Blaspiel was elevated to the status of imperial baron .
