Werner Williams

Werner Williams (born June 24, 1946 in Großostheim ) is a German old Germanist .

Life

He earned a BA from the University of Miami in 1968 and a Ph.D. ( Elements in the works of Franz Kafka as analogue of his inner life ) at the University of Kentucky . From 1971 to 1974 he was a high school teacher. From 1974 to 1980 he was a research associate in the research group Prose of the German Middle Ages and lecturer for literature and language of the German Middle Ages at the Institute for German Philology at the University of Würzburg . From 1981 to 1990 he was assistant and senior assistant at the Institute for German Philology at the University of Munich . After completing his habilitation in Würzburg in 1983 , he held professorships or visiting professorships at the universities of Munich , Würzburg, Tübingen , Minnesota ( Minneapolis ), Pittsburgh and Turku from 1984 to 2011 . From 1990 to 2011 he was professor for German language and literature of the Middle Ages at the University of Augsburg . In 2004 he received an honorary doctorate from the Jihočeská univerzita v Českých Budějovicích .
