Werner Wurst (born December 28, 1912 in Dresden ; † April 17, 1986 ibid) was a German photographer, advertising specialist and non-fiction author.

Life

Werner Wurst was born the son of a shopkeeper in Dresden. After attending commercial school, he completed commercial training in 1928 at the Dresden camera factory in Ihagee . Because of his textual and graphic skills, he was employed in the advertising department. From 1931 to 1932 he studied at the Dresden Photo Trade School and the Reichsgewerbefachschule in Berlin and then took a job at Ihagee. In the mid-thirties he became head of the advertising department there and was granted power of attorney in 1937. During this time his first publications were made. Since Wurst suffered from asthma all his life, he escaped being called up as a soldier and worked in a technology department of the Wehrmacht during the Second World War.

After the end of the war, Wurst worked as a freelance advertising specialist, photographer and author. Among other things, he created advertising materials and operating instructions for his former employer Ihagee, especially for their Exakta and EXA cameras , and organized PR campaigns for trade fairs and conferences. Later, the camera manufacturer Pentacon and the Meissen porcelain factory were also among his clients for advertising materials and brochures. His specialist books on photography achieved large editions and were translated into several languages. He also published several illustrated books and a biography about the Dresden photographer Richard Peter .

In 1966 Werner Wurst was one of the co-founders of the EXAKTA-Klub Dresden, an association of photo amateurs which he headed for many years. His grave is in the Johannisfriedhof in Dresden's Tolkewitz district .
