Wessel Lücke (born December 28, 1937 in Breslau ) is a German basketball official . He is the holder of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

career

Lücke left Wroclaw with his parents during the Second World War and came to Göttingen in 1944 . In the 1950s he came into contact with basketball at the local Felix-Klein-Gymnasium . He played for Tuspo 61 Göttingen before moving to TG 46 Göttingen, for which he played in the top German division at the time, the Oberliga.

Lücke took over the management of the basketball division of TG 46 and trained youth teams. In 1974 the basketball departments of TG 46 and Tuspo 61 were merged to form BG 74 Göttingen . In 1975, he led the Göttingen Youth B as coach won the German championship in 1976, the men's team got the BG 74 under Lückes line as a coach in the 2nd Basketball League on.

In 1979 Lücke was one of the founders of the Göttingen mini-tournament, which developed into the largest German basketball tournament for children and young people in the mini-age groups. Wessel was the organizer of the annual event from 1979 to 2014.

He founded the regional basketball association in Göttingen and worked as a functionary in various offices, including sports warden, youth warden and lawyer, game manager and mini-speaker.

Lücke studied law and was a judge at the local courts of Einbeck and Göttingen . From 1992 he worked at the Halle regional court as chairman for dealing with GDR injustices in the chamber for rehabilitation matters and from 1993 also headed the district court in Sangerhausen . In 2001 he retired.

In 2009, Lücke was awarded the silver badge of honor by the German Basketball Association, and in 2008 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany . In December 2014, BG 74 Göttingen appointed him honorary chairman, and in 2016 he became an honorary member of the Lower Saxony Basketball Association. He had already received the Association's Golden Badge of Honor in 1988.
