Vessela Letschewa ( Bulgarian Весела Лечева ; born May 20, 1964 in Veliko Tarnowo ) is a former Bulgarian sports shooter and today's politician .

Wessela Letschewa took part in the Olympic Games four times : in 1988 she reached 17th place with the air rifle, while she won the silver medal behind Silvia Sperber with the small-bore rifle in the three-position battle with 683.2 points . In 1992 she reached the finals in Barcelona with an air rifle thanks to an Olympic record of 396 points in the preliminary round. In this she scored a further 99.3 points and finished second with a total of 495.3 points behind Yeo Gap-sun , so that she again received silver. She was also in the final with the small bore rifle, but this time only came in sixth. Four years later in Atlanta she finished the competition with the air rifle in 13th place and with the small bore rifle in 12th place. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , she missed both finals as 20th with the air rifle and eleventh with the small bore rifle, as in 1996.

Wessela Letschewa became world champion ten times . In 1981 she won bronze with the air rifle team in Santo Domingo , before winning the title in Mexico City in 1985 . In addition, she secured bronze in the individual. In 1986, she also became the individual world champion in Suhl and also won the title of the individual and team competition in the three-position battle with the small-bore rifle. In the prone position she won silver with the team. In 1987 in Budapest and 1989 in Sarajevo , she won individual and team titles with the air rifle, in 1990 in Moscow she won both competitions in the three-position competition with the small-bore rifle. In 1990 she and the team again secured silver in the lying position. Her last medal won Letschewa in 1998 in Barcelona with bronze in the team competition of the three-position fight with the small bore rifle.

In 1989 she was named Bulgarian Sportswoman of the Year . As a member of the Bulgarian Socialist Party , Lecheva was a member of the Bulgarian Parliament from 2001 to 2009, and has been a member again since 2017. From 2005 to 2009 she was the chairman of the state agency for youth and sport under Prime Minister Sergei Stanischew .
