West Church (Tillicoultry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The West Church is a former church building in the Scottish town of Tillicoultry in the Council Area of Clackmannanshire . The church building dates from 1840, so it is eleven years younger than the Parish Church of St. Serf near the Old Cemetery in the northeast of the city. The parish was merged with that of the Parish Church of St. Serf and the building was converted into social housing. In 1977 it was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category C.

description

The former church building is located directly on the A91 , which runs through the city as the main road, west of the city center across from the junction with Stirling Street . The building, which dates from 1840, is built in the Georgian style and kept rather simple. The masonry of the two-story structure is made of rubble . Three vertical axes traverse the north-facing front along the road. The centrally recessed, double-leaf door closes with a segmental arch above the skylight . On the western facade, the windows are arranged on four axes. The building ends with a platform roof.
