Tillicoultry ( Scottish Gaelic Tulach Cultraidh ) is a town in the Scottish Council Area of Clackmannanshire . It is about five kilometers northeast of Alloa and 13 km east-southeast of Dunblane at the foot of the Ochil Hills and belongs to the Hillfoots Villages . The Forth flows a few kilometers, the Devon a few hundred meters south. Tillicoultry is connected to the road network by the A91 . In 2011 Alva had 5120 inhabitants.

history

Textile production was historically an important industry in Tillicoultry and contributed significantly to its development. The companies used the numerous mountain streams along the slopes of the Ochils to generate energy. Tweed , tartans and knitwear have been produced there since the 16th century . In the 1880s, there were 18 textile processing companies in Tillicoultry. Today Tillicoultry is a commuter community .
