West India Quay station

West India Quay is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 2 at the former West India Docks , on the northern edge of the Isle of Dogs .

The station has four tracks and two island platforms. These are located on a viaduct that bridges a former harbor basin. Here the route from Lewisham branches off into the routes to Tower Gateway / Bank or to Stratford . The closest station in the south, Canary Wharf , is just 199 meters away - the shortest station distance on a rail network in all of London.

The station was opened on August 31, 1987, together with the DLR basic network. It initially consisted of only two tracks and a short central platform. The station was closed from 1991 to June 28, 1993 and was completely rebuilt during this time.
