West Sacramento is a city in Yolo County in the US state of California , USA , with 44,928 inhabitants (as of 2006). The geographic coordinates are: 38.56 ° north, 121.55 ° west. The urban area has a size of 59.2 km². It is a western suburb of the California capital Sacramento .
West Sacramento is accessible by Interstate 80 , from which branches off in the local area of US 50 , and by the Sacramento Deep Water Ship Channel , which ends here in the Sacramento River .
The city lies on an alluvial plain across from the confluence of the American River in the Sacramento and is considered extremely flood prone.
