history
Westag & Getalit AG goes back to the furniture factory Joseph Ellendorff , which was entered in the commercial register of Wiedenbrück on December 7, 1901 . Due to the economic constraints of the First World War , the factory was sold on April 15, 1926 to the brothers Isaak and Gustav Thalheimer from Hanover and Sigmund Hirschheimer from Ludwigshafen am Rhein . Until then, they were also the main buyers of the products. The economic boycott under National Socialism caused by the Jewish origin of the owners forced them to emigrate to England and Brazil in 1936 . In August 1938 the company was renamed Westdeutsche Plywood Works Hugo Bresser & Co. , the successful Aryan Bresser died in Nazi custody in 1945 after a denunciation by the other partner Christian Franke . After the end of the war, Erich Thalheimer, son of Isaak Thalheimer, got the work back. In 1960 the company got its current company: Westag & Getalit . The company went public on June 26, 1961. Between 1989 and 1994 Westag & Getalit issued preferred shares . Westag & Getalit AG has been part of Broadview Industries AG since 2018.
Business activity
With the two productive divisions “Doors / Frames” and “Surfaces / Elements”, the manufacturer offers a wide range of construction and extension products. The offer ranges from plywood and shuttering panels to decorative and technical coating materials (including HPL laminate and mineral material) to coated panel materials for interior construction. In addition, ready-to-install products such as doors and frames, work surfaces, window sills and kitchen rear wall systems are offered. The surfaces / elements division emerged from the merger of the two previously independent product divisions “plywood / formwork” and “laminates / elements”.
The division with the highest turnover in 2005 was the doors / frames area with a turnover of 73.2 million euros. The export share was 10.3 percent. The laminates / elements division had sales of 69.6 million euros, 27.4 percent of which from export. The division with the weakest turnover is plywood / formwork with 27.1 million euros. The export share is the highest at 33 percent. The plywood / formwork division had sales of 27.1 million euros in 2005. 33 percent of this was generated through exports. The annual surplus , according to IFRS , amounted to 5.2 million euros in 2005. In 2006 Westag & Getalit benefited disproportionately from the upswing in the construction industry. The annual surplus in 2006 was 11.9 million euros.
The company's main plant is located in Rheda-Wiedenbrück , while the branch is located in Wadersloh, about 15 kilometers away . Products from the surfaces / elements division are manufactured in the branch.
