The Westfalen-Kolleg Dortmund (WKDO) is a further education college sponsored by the city of Dortmund and thus a school of second-chance education . It was founded in 1961 and now comprises three courses:
- The college course leads in four semesters to the technical college entrance qualification and in six semesters to the general university entrance qualification (Abitur) and takes place within the framework of all-day lessons.
- Since 2002 it has been possible to obtain the Abitur in a so-called blended learning format with face-to-face classes at the weekend in the Abitur-Online course.
- Since the merger with the Abendgymnasium Dortmund 2016/17 there is also an evening grammar school branch, can be made up part-time in the classic in evening or morning classes a high school.
In addition, there are special courses for professional travelers, such as artists and showmen. The Westfalen-Kolleg also holds Abitur exams for non-school students.
Conditions for registration
Training at the Westfalen-Kolleg Dortmund can begin in both the summer and winter semesters. The prerequisite is a minimum age of 18 years and a completed vocational training or two years of professional activity. The students receive state funding according to the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG). This is granted independently of parents and is not repayable.
Facilities
In addition to catering for the students, a cafeteria also regularly serves as a room for internal and external events, such as B. the physics teacher day or regular college parties. The school uses the Moodle course management system as a learning and exchange platform. There is also a student library and a student council . All classrooms and specialist rooms are equipped with modern media technology. At the same time, there is a comprehensive WLAN with a broadband connection to the Internet.
