Western Islands is an area in the Bismarck Archipelago that includes various islands and archipelagos.
Politically, the islands belong to Papua New Guinea and are located off the northeast coast of New Guinea .

Cultural geographical classification
In German ethnology , the Western Islands - including the island of Manus - were also referred to as Paramicronesia . One reason for this name was the cultural proximity of the islanders to Micronesia , which is much further north .
Administrative mapping
Administratively, the islands belong to the Manus Province . Aua and Wuvulu belong to the Aua-Wuvulu Rural LLG (Local Level Government) Area , the islands to the east of it belong to the Nigoherm RLLG .
