The Kaniet Islands form the easternmost archipelago in the Western Islands area of the Bismarck Archipelago in the Pacific Ocean . They are located about 48 km northeast of the Hermit Islands .

The group consists of two flat and forested, from a common coral reef enclosed islands : In the northeast, the main island Suf , in the southwest of the much smaller island Tatak .

According to other sources, the archipelago consists of five islands. However, this number of islands is no longer recognizable on current (as of 2019) satellite images.

politics

Administratively, the uninhabited islands belong to the province of Manus in Papua New Guinea , and therein to the Nigoherm Rural LLG (Local Level Government) Area .

The Kaniet Islands are combined with the Sae Islands , located about 30 km to the north-west, as the island area of ​​the Kaniet (Sae) Islands , although they are two geographically separate archipelagos.
