The Credner Islands (in German colonial times also Taubeninseln , also called Pigeon Islands in English ) are a small Pacific archipelago of Papua New Guinea , located in the St. George's Channel 7 km north of the Gazelle Peninsula of the island of New Britain and approx km southwest of Kabakon , the most southwestern island in the Duke of York Islands . The islands were named after the geologist Hermann Credner .
The group consists of the inhabited island of Big Pigeon and the uninhabited island of Pigeon . Politically, both islands belong to the province of East New Britain .
