Alexandra Westmeier

Alexandra Westmeier (born Alexandra Salomatowa , Russian Александра Саломатова ; born August 1, 1973 in Chelyabinsk ) is a Russian-German documentary filmmaker.

Life

Alexandra Salomatowa studied from 1990 to 1995 acting and then 1996/97 theater directing at the National Academy of Theater Arts ( Санкт-Петербургская государственная академия театрального искусства ) in Saint Petersburg , then 1997-2000 directing at the Russian Academy of Theater Arts in Moscow . After studying directing, she worked for Russian television. In 2001 she moved to Germany to live with her husband, the cameraman Inigo Westmeier , who had been doing postgraduate studies at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg since 1999 . In 2003 she staged Tennessee Williams ' Suddenly Last Summer at the Stuttgart Studio Theater .

With the material she filmed in the youth prison in her hometown of Chelyabinsk , she made her first two feature films, the one-hour arte documentary Mama, I am fine and the full-length documentary Alone in Four Walls , which was shown in August 2007 at the Locarno Film Festival in 2008 ran successfully at the Sundance Film Festival and was released in German cinemas in November 2009. The film Lost Reactor was awarded in the category Best Camera Documentary at the Achtung Berlin Film Festival in 2019.
