Wharton is a city with a status of " City " and the county seat of Wharton County in the US state of Texas .
geography
The city is located approximately 80 kilometers southwest of downtown Houston . The US Highway 59 affected Wharton in the West. In the south, the Colorado River limits the place.
history
The place was named after William Harris Wharton and John Austin Wharton , two brothers who became crucial during the Texan Revolution . Because of the fertile soil, settlers settled in the area and practiced agriculture. In 1846 Wharton was designated the provincial capital.
Today Wharton benefits from the presence of the provincial government and is valued as a residential area for commuters to the Houston metropolis.

Many Wilhelminian-era buildings are listed on Wharton County's National Register of Historic Places , including the Wharton County Courthouse .
