The Whatcom Peak (7,574 ft (2,309 m)) is a mountain in North Cascades National Park in the US state of Washington . From the summit, 0.5 mi (0.8 km) north, the Challenger Glacier and Whatcom Glacier flow down from the northeast slopes of the mountain. An unnamed slope glacier flows from the northwest flank of the mountain to the valley.

climate

Whatcom Peak lies in the climatic zone of the marine west coast of western North America . Most of the weather fronts come from the Pacific and move northeast towards the Cascade Range . As well as the fronts, the North Cascades reach, they are forced to rise ( rain storage ) what the raining or -schneien result has. As a result, high amounts of precipitation fall on the west side of the North Cascades, especially in winter in the form of snow. Because of the temperate climate and proximity to the Pacific, temperatures west of the Main Cascade Ridge very rarely drop below 0 ° F (-18 ° C) or rise above 80 ° F (27 ° C). During the winter months the sky is mostly cloudy and overcast, but due to the high pressure areas over the Pacific there are often few or no clouds in the summer months. Due to the maritime climate, the snow is rather wet and heavy, so that the danger of avalanches is high.
