Erich Endlein

Erich Endlein (born June 6, 1925 in Cologne ; † August 12, 2017 ) was a German Roman Catholic priest and senior teacher. He earned special services through his support of the development worker Irmel Weyer .

Life

Erich Endlein was born in Cologne. After graduating from high school, he recognized his vocation as a priest and studied theology. He was ordained a priest on July 15, 1951 in Cologne Cathedral . His stations as chaplain were the parishes of St. Andreas in Leverkusen- Schlebusch , St. Michael in Mülheim- Speldorf and then in the parish of St. Engelbert in Mülheim an der Ruhr . During this he began to give religious instruction at the municipal vocational schools, which became a main occupation from 1957. To be able to teach another subject, he completed a sports degree. After his appointment as senior student councilor, he was the district commissioner for religious education at vocational schools for many years. At the same time he remained a subsidiar in the parish of St. Engelbert until his retirement at the age of 75 . He spent his last years in a senior citizens' home. In 2014 he worked as an actor on a calendar with seniors in the roles of young film stars, which was reported across Europe.

In 2016 he was able to celebrate the Iron Priest Jubilee.

He died in August 2017 and was buried in the priestly crypt of the parish of St. Engelbert at the main cemetery in Mülheim an der Ruhr .

Act

Youth work was a special concern of Erich Endlein. In addition to supporting the scouts in the PSG and the DPSG and the Kolping Youth , he was particularly connected to the Maltese Youth . With this he was diocesan pastor for six years. He organized and accompanied aid transports to Romania, even drove severely disabled children to school and organized youth camps. He showed great commitment in 1987 when the Pope visited Gelsenkirchen and at the Catholic Days .

He took off his sports badge for many years and worked as a trainer for the German Rowing Association and as a ski instructor. His rowing camps and mountain hikes that he organized were popular.

In 1967 he founded the “Association of Patrons of the Jungle Doctor Dr. Irmel Weyer ”, which later changed its name to the“ Dr. Irmel Weyer Foundation ”. Without the support of the association with several hundred members, it would be much more difficult to run the hospital in Mbinga . Even after his retirement, Endlein was Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Honors

In 2001 he was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon and the honor bar of the city of Mülheim.
