The Whitmer Peninsula is an ice-covered peninsula with an area of around 125 km² on the Scott Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It lies between the Cheetham ice tongue in the north and the Harbord glacier tongue in the south, which flow into the Ross Sea on both sides .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it using its own surveys and using aerial photographs of the United States Navy from the years 1957 to 1962. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1968 after Lieutenant RD Whitmer of the US Navy, who was on the airfield in 1956 William Field had overwintered near McMurdo Station .
