Johann Friedrich Ludwig Günther

Johann Friedrich Ludwig Günther (born March 15, 1773 in Gandersheim , † October 17, 1854 in Wolfenbüttel ) was a German legal scholar , judge , university professor and politician .

Life

His father was a commissioner at Gandersheim Abbey . Günther attended school in Gandersheim and then went to study at the University of Göttingen , where he was awarded a Dr. jur. received his doctorate . On September 29, 1796 he became an actuary at the Gandersheim office, then in 1800 a judicial officer at the Calvörde and Bahrdorf offices .

In 1808 he was appointed judge at the tribunal in Helmstedt and also extraordinary professor of law at the University of Helmstedt . There he taught in particular Roman law and civil procedural law . He was the last professor who before closing the institution in Helmstedt appointed was. Günther moved to Königslutter for a short time as district administrator in 1814 , was then appointed court counselor in 1816 and a member of the regional court in Wolfenbüttel and in 1817 a secular member of the consistory there . In 1819 he was appointed a member of the Higher Appeal Court in Wolfenbüttel . From 1846 until his death he was the presidium of the court.

After Günther was appointed provost of the St. Lorenz monastery in Schöningen , he was a member of the Braunschweig Landtag on the prelate bank from 1831 . In addition, he was a member of the ministerial commission for advising on draft laws and other important state matters for the Duchy of Braunschweig, as well as being chairman of the section for justice .
