The Whittle Peninsula is a peninsula on the Davis Coast of Graham Land in the Antarctic Peninsula . It borders Charcot Bay to the west and ends in Cape Kater .
Participants in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903), led by Otto Nordenskjöld , surveyed the peninsula in December 1902. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1977 after the British pilot and aviation pioneer Frank Whittle (1907-1996), who in 1937 developed the jet engine independently and at the same time as Hans von Ohain .
