from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How Obelix plopped into the magic potion as a small child (French original title: Comment Obélix est tombé dans la marmite du druide quand il était petit ) is a special volume of the Asterix series and a prequel of the comic book Asterix the Gaul , in which one learns how Obelix came to his strength. The story is not in the form of a comic , but consists of an illustrated text. The text is by René Goscinny and the pictures by Albert Uderzo . The text of the first edition appeared in the French magazine Pilote in 1965 .

action

Asterix tells the story of Gallic children with Obelix sitting next to him. He begins by talking about his family: he had a graceful mother and was born in the Gaulish village that the Romans could not conquer.

Obelix was the son of a menhir maker. Because he was a bit plump (he already had a preference for roast wild boar back then ) and also sensitive, he was teased by the other village children - only Asterix stuck to him.

At school they were taught by the druid Miraculix, with Asterix being the best in class and Obelix being poor. However, the lessons were interrupted by repeated attacks by the Romans and the druid, instead of teaching the students, had to distribute the magic potion so that the Romans could be driven out. The women had to prepare the feast that followed regularly. The students were free during the Roman attacks.

One day the Romans attacked again and the children did not know how to bridge their free time. Then the strongest boy in the class, rubber arabix, had the idea of turning Obelix into a Roman and beating him up. All but Asterix followed the idea and hit him. After the incident, Asterix persuaded Obelix to secretly take a sip of Miraculix's magic potion. However, it went wrong: When Asterix warned Obelix that the warriors were coming back earlier than expected, Obelix fell into the cauldron in shock. He drank the entire contents, which is why the magic potion has never stopped working. After Obelix took revenge on his classmates, nobody dared to make fun of him.

Remarks

In this special volume you can see the parents of Asterix and Obelix for the first time. Otherwise they only appear in Asterix and Latraviata and in the short story volume 32 Asterix chats from school again. In addition, in this volume Majestix , the village chief, is already an adult and also a chief; however, it is even smaller and slimmer than in the rest of the comic series. When you see Obelix for the first time, he pulls a small, white toy dog behind him, which is very reminiscent of his later dog Idefix .

The style of the narrative is very similar to the series The Little Nick, also written by Goscinny .

publication

The story first appeared in 1965 issue # 291 of the French magazine Pilote . In 1989 the story was released as an album with pictures redrawn by Albert Uderzo. The album is outwardly similar to the other Asterix albums, but numerically not integrated into the series. A revised edition of the album with a new cover picture and revised translation was published in Germany in 2009.
