action

The story begins in the palace of Julius Caesar , who is with the pharaoh Cleopatra and is upset about Admiral Aquis Submersus (Latin: devoured by the waters, also the title of a novella by Theodor Storm ), who is to blame for the fact that the most valuable ship is Caesars was stolen by slaves. For this reason, the admiral instructed Vice-Admiral Prospectus to get the ship back. In the meantime, a vote is taken on the ship where the voyage should go. Each of the former slaves from different countries wants to go home. Eventually the British proposal to go to the invincible Gallic village is accepted.

When Vice-Admiral Prospectus comes to Gaul and camps near the village to wait for Submersus there, the alarm is raised in the Gaulish village and Miraculix distributes the contents of one of two cauldrons of magic potion to the villagers. Obelix does not receive, as he was a child in the magic potion, which now has a lasting effect on him, for fear of side effects, as usual, no magic potion. He is offended and refrains from attacking the Romans and remains sulking in the village. After they have won the fight, Asterix and Miraculix search for him and find him petrified like a menhir in the druid's hut . He is holding an empty potion kettle in his hands. They carry Obelix into his hut and try to bring him back to life. But neither a magic potion nor the smell of roast wild boar helps . Only Falbala's kiss ultimately helps to lift the petrification, but Obelix is now a small child again.

In the meantime, Admiral Submersus has reached Vice-Admiral Prospectus and finds his legion injured. Prospectus tells him about the incident with the Gauls. At the same time, the escaped slaves arrive in the village and ask the villagers for help. You decide to take the galley to the village. At the same time, Obelix is not feeling well. Instead of the usual three he can only eat one wild boar, and when he wants to give Falbala a menhir, he cannot move it. The magic potion no longer works and he decides to go to the forest.

In the meantime, the Vice-Admiral decides to kidnap a Gaul who is walking in the forest and exchange his freedom for Caesar's ship. Soon afterwards the Gauls noticed that Obelix had been abducted and they set out with the slaves who had escaped and stormed the Roman camp Aquarium. There they learn that Obelix is to be brought to Rome on a ship. Asterix, Miraculix and the escaped go with the galley to free Obelix, which they manage after a short time. They leave Caesar's ship to the pirates whose ship they had previously sunk. The pirates are meanwhile going to Rome with Caesar's ship, while the crew is sailing to Atlantis with Asterix , as Miraculix thinks that he will get help for Obelix there because of his age problem. Once in Atlantis, they see only children everywhere: children who ride dolphins, children who are centaurs , and children who fly on swans. The only adult is the priest Guanchott. He explains to the three Gauls who have arrived that everyone on the island is children, since everyone has decided to drink the drink of eternal childhood. However, to the horror of Asterix, Obelix and Miraculix, he knows no antidote. That's why they want to travel back disappointed. The slaves who traveled with them decide to stay in Atlantis and become children again.

In the middle of the sea, the Romans see the three Gauls and want to bring their own ship back. Asterix tries to drink his magic potion from the bottle, but is hit by a cannonball from the Romans, throws the canteen into the sea and passes out. The Romans now want to throw Asterix into the sea in front of the sharks. At that moment Obelix grows up again (the antidote was fear) and throws the Romans overboard. At the same time, Admiral Submersus notices the magic potion in his fleet and chases away the pirates by whom they are held captive. Out of greed, he drinks all the rest of it and is displayed in stone and in the arena of Caesar's circus games. In the end, Obelix takes revenge in the Aquarium camp and returns to the village as a grown man with Asterix and Miraculix, where they traditionally celebrate their return at night.

Remarks

It is the first album in which the pirates are called by name. Furthermore, Cleopatra is depicted differently in this volume than in Asterix and Cleopatra (e.g. here she has a normal nose).
