How to pull a whale's molar tooth (original title: Jak vytrhnout velrybě stoličku ) is a children's film from Czechoslovakia . It premiered on Czechoslovak television on Christmas Eve 1977. The German synchronization for television in the GDR took place in 1978 and was shown on Christmas Eve in DFF 1 that same year .
Due to the popularity of the film, the film was continued as early as 1978 under the title How to get your father into the reformatory .

8-year-old Vašek from Prague is growing up without a father. His mother told him that his father was a mountaineer and had died on an excursion to Annapurna for several months . Because Vašek is of the opinion that a real family consists of at least three people, he looks for a suitable man for his mother by all means. She has little time for him, because she works as a ballet dancer at a large Prague theater. Often his grandmother, who works as a nurse at a surgical clinic, has to look after him.
His mother and her dance teacher Jindřich are a good match, but Vašek doesn't like him and he's married. During the winter holidays, Vašek and his mother spend a week in a hotel in Špindlerův Mlýn in the Giant Mountains. Vašek's first ski run turns into a “shot run”, during which he outlines several people and ends up upside down in a stream. Fortunately, the head of the mountain rescue service is close by to help him out of the water and wrap him in his warm red anorak. Together they drive back to the hotel on the snowmobile. Vašek quickly took his savior to heart and tried to pair him up with his mother, not realizing that it was his biological father, Luboš.
Award
The film received the "Prague Grand Prix" in 1978.
