Wiebke Eden (born January 19, 1968 in Jever ) is a German writer .

biography

From 1988 Wiebke Eden worked as a volunteer at the newspaper Jeversches Wochenblatt . This was followed by a year and a half as an editor . From 1991 to 1996 she studied German and pedagogy at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg and graduated with a master's degree. She also worked as a freelance journalist and gave lectures and seminars in adult education .

Wiebke Eden lives in Berlin .

  • 1995: Mainz selection and journalism award from the Bremerhaven press club.

Works

The time of the red fruits

The novel accompanies the protagonist Greta through the Second World War in Szczecin . Greta is twenty years old at the beginning of the novel. Her story is based on the life story of a great aunt by marriage of the author. Greta works as a kitchen helper in a restaurant, where she meets her first love. Greta becomes pregnant, but does not want to marry the child's father. He was called up for military service and later fell at the front. Greta later meets a man in a harbor bar, whom she marries at the end of the novel. Similar to Helene in Julia Franck's novel " Die Mittagsfrau ", Greta has a distant relationship with her child.
