The Wiener Wiesn-Fest is Austria 's largest popular festival and has been held annually on the Kaiserwiese in Vienna's Prater since 2011 . Numerous events are offered to visitors over 18 days from the end of September to mid-October. Among the guests of the festival there are also numerous celebrities from business, politics, art and culture. The focus is on Austrian customs and traditions, Austrian cuisine and folk music . The organizer of the festival is the Oktoberfest Event and Culture GmbH . In 2020 the Wiener Wiesn Fest was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Tents and festival grounds

A total of three festival tents and five alpine pastures as well as the Wiesn Festival Village are available to guests of the Wiesn Festival for celebrating and strolling. Since its inception, the event location has been the Kaiserwiese in Vienna's Prater at the foot of the Ferris wheel .

Gösser tent

At around 80 meters in length and 35 meters in width, the Gösser tent is the largest of the festival tents at the Wiener Wiesn and offers space for around 3,500 guests. The heart of the location is a balcony inside the tent, which offers a perfect view of the stage and the action. The Austrian beer brand Gösser is the namesake .

Wiesbauer tent

In the Wiesbauer tent, up to 1,700 guests listen to bands from the Austrian folk music scene during the Oktoberfest. In addition to the festive decoration, the tent, which bears the name of the Austrian sausage manufacturer Wiesbauer , offers a sun terrace and a direct view of the Vienna Ferris wheel .

Wojnar's Kaiser tent

The Wojnar’s Kaiser tent, named after the Austrian delicatessen manufacturer, accommodates around 1,400 guests during the Vienna Wiesn festival. The special feature of the tent is the transparent roof with a view of the Vienna Ferris wheel.

Alpine pastures

The five alpine pastures of the Wiener Wiesn have their own pub garden and can be used by visitors from 11.30 a.m. to 1 a.m. In addition to fine dining, the alpine pastures are characterized by numerous live acts and après-ski party atmosphere. Right at the beginning of the festival area is the “Ich bin Österreich” Alm of the German discounter Penny , while the ORF Alm is located opposite . Food and drinks are served in the Winzer Stadl and the Heuboden- and Champagner-Alm.

Wiesn festival village

The ADEG Wiesn-Fest Dorf extends from the entrance arch on Gabor-Steiner-Weg past the Billa festival stage and ends at the entrance arch at Prater-Hauptallee . It serves as a promenade for guests, who are offered a variety of Austrian craftsmanship and regional delicacies at various stands. For the youngest Wiesn visitors and their parents, there are “games stands” and a children's Wiesn. The centerpiece of the Wiesn Festival Village is the large festival stage, where all nine Austrian federal states present themselves with their customs and traditions on the so-called federal state days . The program ranges from various brass bands to folk dance performances.

The Wiener Wiesn-Fest is best known for its diverse music program with top acts from the Austrian and international folk music scene. In addition to the daily fixed points, the three-week event also offers numerous side events:

Pink Wiener Wiesn Festival

With the Rosa Wiener Wiesn-Fest, the Austrian rainbow scene has been conquering the Wiener Wiesn-Fest since 2013. In addition to the annual party evening in Wojnar's Kaiser tent, the Rosa Wiener Wiesn's program has been supplemented by the Rosa Wiener Wiesn early-morning shop since 2015. The event is presented in cooperation with CIDCOM Productions and the culture platform kulturbanane .

Wiesn heart for the crypt

The first Monday of the Wiener Wiesn Festival has been dedicated to charity since 2014. Under the motto “A Wiesn heart for the crypt”, the Vienna Wiesn Festival invites well-known personalities from business, politics, art and culture to a donation evening in favor of the Vienna crypt . Since its inception, the patronage for the charity event has been with the former Austrian refugee coordinator and long-time crypt supporter Christian Konrad .

Agriculture Night

The Night of Agriculture has been held annually since 2015 in cooperation with the Österreichischer Agrarverlag and the Österreichische Bauernzeitung . With around 1,600 guests from (agriculture) business, agricultural engineering and rural life, it is one of the fixed points of the local agricultural economy and focuses on regional handicrafts, agricultural products and rural customs.

Music award

The Music Award of the Wiener Wiesn-Fest has been presented annually since 2012 and since 2016 in cooperation with the Austrian discounter Penny. Until 2016, only contributions from the “brass music” category were allowed to participate in the award; since 2017, the award ceremony has been expanded to include the “pop music” category. The application period for the award starts at the beginning of May and runs until mid-June. All video submissions that have been received by this point in time will take part in the online voting after a technical review by an expert jury. In each category, those two entries that receive the best rating from mid-August to the end of August will move into the final. The winners' free choice takes place one day before the opening of the Wiener Wiesn-Fest, when the finalists present their contributions in front of a live audience. The winners will be determined by applause and can not only look forward to an appearance at the next Vienna Wiesn Festival, but will also be a fixed starter at the “ Woodstock of Brass Music ” festival next year .

Wiener Wiesn-Fest traditional costume award

Together with a prominent jury, the Wiener Wiesn-Fest calls for the Wiener Wiesn-Fest Trachtenaward every year . The aim of the competition is to put traditional tailoring in the spotlight and to offer a stage for innovative designs by young talents. Since 2017, the award has been given in two categories - for "young entrepreneurs" and "young designers". The winners will be chosen in the run-up to the Vienna Wiesn Festival in mid-September.

While the winner in the “Young Design” category can look forward to an internship, material prizes and prize money as a start-up aid, the winner of the “Young Entrepreneur” category has the chance to present his label at the final event of the traditional costume award.

Traditional costume clubbing

The Wiener Wiesn-Fest Trachtenclubbing has been taking place in the Wiesbauer tent since 2014. In addition to the appearance of the winners of the Music Awards, guests can look forward to interactive live entertainment with party and disco hits on a Sunday evening.

opening hours

The festival area on the Kaiserwiese between Gabor-Steiner-Weg and Hauptallee opens its doors daily from 11.30 a.m. The festival area and the tents close from Wednesday to Saturday at midnight, in the alpine pastures the curfew is set at 1 a.m. The Oktoberfest party for the festival grounds, tents and mountain pastures ends on Sunday at 8 p.m.
