Viennese zither quartet
The Vienna Zither Quartet , also known as the Vienna Zither Teachers Quartet , has been trying to revive an almost extinct musical instrument, the zither , since 1998 . It is a guest worldwide.
Members
The Vienna Zither Quartet is currently composed as follows:
- Hannelore Laister and her two daughters:
- Barbara Laister-Ebner and
- Monika Kutter b. Laister as well
- Stephan Hörandner
The ensemble plays in numerous churches and concert halls in Germany and Austria, but has also made guest appearances in Iran, Italy, France and Hungary. Ensemble member Barbara Laister-Ebner was invited by the Vienna Philharmonic to take part in the 2018 New Year's Concert .
repertoire
The Viennese zither quartet has a wide-ranging repertoire, which ranges from baroque and classical to the classic Viennese song and the Viennese waltz tradition to blues , pop and world music . Robbie Williams is one of the contemporary composers whose works the ensemble interprets . The ensemble's standard repertoire includes the following pieces of music:
- Evaristo Dall'Abaco : Sonata op. 1/4 (18th century)
- Georg Philipp Telemann : Mesto (18th century)
- Johann Sebastian Bach : Allegro moderato and double concert (18th century)
- Johann and Josef Strauss : Pizzicato-Polka (1870)
- Anton Karas : Harry Lime Theme (1948)
- Astor Piazzolla : Invierno Porteño (1952)
Other central works of the repertoire are traditional pieces of Viennese folk music, such as:

Hannelore Laister also founded the Vienna Zither Ensemble , which is currently under the direction of her daughter Monika Kutter. This ensemble combines professional zither players with talented amateurs.
