Barbara Laister-Ebner

Barbara Laister-Ebner (born on August 25, 1972 in Vienna ) is an Austrian zither player .

life and work

Barbara Laister learned to play the zither from the age of seven with Charlotte Roder and Hannelore Laister at the Margareten music school. The latter, her mother, taught instrumental pedagogy as a professor at the Vienna Conservatory . In 1990 Barbara Laister graduated from the commercial secondary school. From 1990 she studied zither with Hannelore Laister and flute with Chia-Ling Renner-Liao at the Vienna Conservatory. In June 1994 she passed the state teaching qualification test. In addition, she completed a bachelor's degree in zoology at the University of Vienna. In 1991 she won first prize at the 1st zither competition at the Vienna Conservatory. In 1996 she took part in the Millennium Celebration on the occasion of 1000 years of Austria in Manila , and in 1997 she appeared as a soloist at concerts of the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Taipei .

Her repertoire includes works of traditional zither literature, but also arrangements of classical music , jazz , pop and contemporary music . She plays with her sister Monika Kutter (née Laister) and with the singer Christina Bachler as the band Tremblazz and since 1998 with the Vienna Zither Quartet . In 1987 she was engaged as a soloist in the Burgtheater production of Stories from the Vienna Woods by Ödön von Horvath , directed by Alfred Kirchner . In 1991 she played her instrument in the same house at König Ottokars Glück and Ende by Franz Grillparzer , staged by Wolfgang Engel . In 2002 she toured Germany to Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt / Main and Leipzig, among others. In 2004 she took part in benefit concerts for the reconstruction of Vijećnica in Sarajevo . In 2005 she made a guest appearance with the Symphonia Vienna in China, and in 2012 with the Symphony Orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper in Japan.

At the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic 2018 under the direction of Riccardo Muti , Laister-Ebner played the zither solo in the stories from the Vienna Woods by Johann Strauss (son) .

Since her marriage she has had the double name Laister-Ebner; she has two children.
