Hannelore Laister

Hannelore Laister (born May 18, 1944 in Vienna ) is an Austrian zither player and teacher. In 1989 she founded the Vienna Zither Quartet and the Vienna Zither Ensemble .

life and work

After elementary and secondary school, Laister completed a commercial apprenticeship. She then worked as a commercial clerk in various offices, later as the secretary of the press officer in the Ministry of Transport . She married Josef Laister, the couple have at least two daughters.

At the age of 6 she started her training in playing zither . In 1964 she passed the state teaching qualification test at the Vienna Conservatory . Her first foreign engagements took her to Holland and Finland in 1965. She often plays in churches and cultural associations, but has also appeared as a soloist at major concerts - for example in 1975 at the Johann Strauss Gala in Hamburg with Marcel Prawy , in 1976 at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck, in 2007 with the Vienna Men's Choir Association and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Sarajevo in Mostar or in 2016 with the Guard Music of the Austrian Armed Forces in the Vienna Hofburg . Solo appearances have taken her to many Viennese palaces, luxury hotels and coffee houses, she also played at traditional balls , such as the Kaiserball on New Year's Eve. Tours with the Vienna Men's Choir Association took her to numerous cities in Germany and Australia.

From 1985 to 1988 she was musical director of the zither club Donau-Stadt Wien. In 1988 she began teaching - first at the Music School of the City of Vienna in Margareten , and a little later at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna, where she directed the instrumental pedagogy for zither. She took part in the Alpine Folk Music Competition four times with her students , and three times in the Prima la musica competition .

In 1989 she founded the Vienna Zitherensemble and the Viennese zither teacher Quartet . She plays in the quartet with her daughters Barbara Laister-Ebner and Monika Kutter and with Stephan Hörandner. The Viennese zither quartet has a wide-ranging repertoire from baroque and classical to Viennese song and Viennese waltz tradition to blues and pop . Most of the arrangements are made by Monika Kutter, who in 2007 also took over the management of the Vienna zither ensemble. Barbara Laister-Ebner was engaged as a soloist at the Vienna Philharmonic's 2018 New Year's Concert .

In 2000, the Austrian Federal President awarded her the professional title of Professor .
