description

The Wieren Mountains, part of a terminal moraine wall from the Saale Ice Age , lie south of the district town of Uelzen between the Stadensen - Wieren line in the north and the Reinstorf - Bad Bodenteich line in the south. The Elbe Lateral Canal runs on the east side.

The Wieren Mountains are a protected landscape area covered by pine forests rich in lichen and moss . The forest grows on areas that were covered by heather until around 1900 .

There are two heather areas, each about 15 hectares in size ( Klein Londoner Heide). They were newly created and are maintained by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU) and the Samtgemeinde Aue . These heather areas can be hiked on a circular hiking trail .
